Free From Worries

It’s amazing just how much stress tends to consume us these days. We flit from one experience to another, carried along by this strong wind of desire and ambition, which might seem great but can have some serious side effects. One of which is this incredible tension and stress that basically haunts us. All we can think about is how much better it would be if we could only just enjoy ourselves, if we could let go of the past and the future and live in the now. If, instead of spending all our time trying to make up for mistakes and forge a better tomorrow, we took things day by day. We’re not saying that foresight and learning from the past aren’t essential, but rather they can’t consume you.

Instead you have to embrace what you have. If you spend every day hating what you do, then change it. If you can’t cope with how much time you spend on things that don’t even matter, then cut them out. It might seem very intimidating and you’ll need to work out what the right balance is for you. Only the luckiest among us wake up every day and want to go into work, want to go and do that 9-5, 5 days a week. For the rest of us, of course we’d give it up if we could, but it pays for so much. And therein lies the trade. You do things you don’t want, so you can do things that you do. The trick to happiness is to get that right. Working 7 days a week for 10 years just so that one day you could be happy is not going to work. In so many cases, it just makes people miserable. Much better to lead an existence that makes you happy.

Instead of spending all of your time planning for the future, wonder if the trade can be made today. Yes, giving up your well paying job might seem like a bit of a nightmare. Yes, it might leave you with less funds available, but it might also give you more time. Would you rather work here, for hours on end, and then be able to go out and enjoy the city and all it’s splendours, or spend half the time working out in the country. Out there, everything is cheaper and you’d need to work so much less. But if you fancy going to the most incredible bar at the drop of a hat, you can’t. If you fancy eating any food you’ve ever imagined, you can’t. You’re limited by your surroundings, and by what they have to offer.

So you have to choose what’s really important to you in life. What’s going to make you happy, in the long run? Is it going to be the things, or is it going to be people and places? You lose one set of possibilities and gain another. We’re not saying that either is really a solution, or that you can find yourself wanting one and not actually needing another. All we think is that it’s time for you to have a good long look at yourself and ask, are you happy? And if you’re not, what can you do to make yourself happy? Will you do it today? Tomorrow? In a year? In 5? The answer is one that only you can know. The secret is to start thinking and start playing an active role in shaping your happiness. Do that, and you’re bound to start feeling on top of the world.
