Travelling to London this Spring? You might think that you’ve got it all worked out, that you’ve cracked the code and now you know exactly what you need to do. Well, that’s great in theory, but is it going to work out that way? We’ve often found that so many people end up not having the trip that they truly desire, simply because they can’t afford to make as many mistakes as they inevitably do. What do we mean by this? Well, there are arguably hundreds of great places to see and enjoy in London that you’ll need to really be on your toes to actually appreciate. After all, everyone in this city seems to love making as much money as possible. All it takes is for you to fall for one overpriced meal and suddenly your finances can be an absolute mess. So, what can you do to prevent this?
This seems obvious and it is, but we see so many people not actually doing it that we feel like we should say what’s going on. Why you guys don’t do it we don’t know. Honestly, it’s kind of baffling for us. All you need to do in this day and age is hop online, do some searching around and look at the places you want to go. Going to be in Tower Hill all day, looking at the Tower and walking down to the Southbank? Amazing, that’s a classic day out in London for a reason and we’re sure that you’re going to have a blast. We have to ask though, have you looked into where you’re going to eat? It’s a simple thing but you’ll need to buy lunch at the very least, and maybe dinner too. It might seem romantic and whimsical and adventurous to pick when you get there, but that’s what plenty of other people thought too. There’s dozens of restaurants down by the river, all full of people like that, all paying a hefty amount out of their pockets because they felt like they wanted to indulge that urge. Trust us, it’s not worth it. Look into where you’re going to be going, or pay the money that needs to be paid. Not really a hard choice, is it?
It’s so easy to get suckered into things, simply because you didn’t think. You head off for a great day with your family into the attractions of London. You head into a festival or popup event. You’ve been loving it and you’re a hour or so in, but you fancy a drink. Everyone does, they’re thirsty. You see a soft drinks brand logo on the side of a popup tent infront of you, you decide to go in. A bottle of coke is £3.50. Water’s £3. You’ve just spent £15 on a couple of bottles of drink you could have picked up for a third of the price if you’d just thought ahead and actually planned. London is lined with examples like this. It’s the lifeblood of many businesses, that rely on you being too preoccupied and frankly too lazy to do the legwork and actually think ahead. So you end up paying the extreme fee because you need to, because the convenience is now necessary for you. Don’t fall into that trap. Think, take a bottle of water out with you. Take some snacks, some paracetamol. You’re likely taking a bag out with you anyway, it isn’t going to hurt to be a little prepared and have many common items that you’d otherwise need to buy. A paper tube map is also a great shout and is available in pretty much every station. The number of people we’ve seen stuck on a busy platform, with snail paced wifi, trying to work out a complicated, multi-change route across the city in rush hour is painful. The only thing worse is the ones that end up trying to wing it and spending an hour doing a fun little round trip and ending down the road on a completely different road.
Don’t get us wrong, lots of the classic London landmarks are considered classics for a reason. They’re great sight that you have to see once when you’re in the city. But they’re hardly the be-all and end-all. If you want to get the true city experience, you need to go out and eat at the restaurants no one knows about, go off the beaten track and see the hidden gardens, explore the less fashionable parks, go play mini-gold underneath the City and go inner-city go-karting. The city is full of potential and possibility and it’s up to you to go and explore it. Trust us when we say that you really won’t regret it if you do. You’ll find yourself with plenty of things to do, see and enjoy. London can be such a wonderful, rich adventure, so why not go out and see it? Try something new and go off that well, well beaten track.
We might have been a bit stern with you so far in this article. It’s us, not you. London can be a very enjoyable place, with a little forethought and preparation, so seeing people come here, not do what needs to be done, not have fun in this otherwise wonderful city and then even worse, talk badly about it, makes us a bit frustrated. Honestly, seeing things like that can make our blood boil. London is a wonderful city. These might all seem like unnecessary tasks and worries, but in the end they will end up making sure that you get to have a trip to remember. Honestly, it’s worth it. If you can’t spend an hour or two doing research and having some thoughts, then London might not be the city for you. But if you’re willing to do the work and make some effort, you’re going to have an absolute blast. There’s a reason why people consider this to be one of the very best cities in all of the world.
