Welcome to the magnificent London Eye EDF as it is the one of the top credited as the worlds tallest ferris wheel , located on the banks of the River Thames this gigantic structure has around 32 capsules which carries around 10000 visitors every day. The Eye of London was opened to visitors by Prime Minister Tony Blair on 31 December 1999 and since then drawing 3.5 million visitors every year. EDF London Eye stands at the height of 443 ft as its diameter is of 394 ft and is currently the tallest ferris wheel in Europe and is largely paid tourist attraction in London.

The Construction and Design

London Eye EDF was designed by a group of distinguished architects Nic Bailey, Frank Anatole, Steve Chilton, Mark Sparrowhawk, Malcolm Cook, and the husband-and-wife team of Julia Barfield and David Marks. The design of the marine works were handled by Beckett Rankine and Tony Gee & Partners designed the foundation works.  Mace group who is an international consultancy and construction company was responsible for the construction management with Tilbury Douglas as the civil contractor and Hollandia as the main steelwork contractor. The wheel which resembles a huge spoked bicycle wheel has a rim that is supported by tensioned steel cables, it also has LED lighting which allow digital control of the lights which was opposed for manual replacements of gels over fluorescent tubes.


4D Experience

The Eye of London houses a preflight 4D experience opened by Merlin Entertainments in the year 2009, it was designed by Kay Elliott working with Merlin Studios project designer Craig Sciba. The 4D experience at London eye has a newly refurbished ticket hall for the 4D experience like never before, Later on the Merlin studios appointed SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment that specializes in designing, building and operating special F/X driven cinematic attractions as its 4D theatre hardware specialists which provides a family-friendly memorable experience.

Energy source and Partnership

Being one the largest electricity industry in the United Kingdom, EDF energy is largely famous for lowest carbon emission and is motivated to be an eco friendly source for energy or electricity generation. London Eye and EDF energy were in partnership from the year 2012 and is commonly called EDF London Eye.

The 32 Capsules
